Product description

Tulip dream

During the Dutch Golden Age, the prices of the newly introduced tulip bulbs reached extreme heights. In January 1637, tulip bulbs were sold for more than ten times the annual salary of a skilled craftsman, and were worth about as much as an Amsterdam canal house. There was also speculation about options for tulips, which were still in the ground at that time. The tulip mania is seen by economists as the first extensively described bubble (speculation wave) in world history. The term tulip mania is often used as a metaphor for a large economic bubble.

The Tulp Mania series is inspired by this phenomenon in combination with the Amsterdam paintings of Rick Triest. The Series was created with the realization of: Heavenly Grachtenwater Amsterdam – Botanical Gin 40% Vol. – Where Rick combines his art with 'The Perfect Serve' to create an experience of his art and Gin concept.

Rick builds the tulip paintings from thick layers of paint and works with a clear handwriting that forms his signature. The thick golden line drawing that completes his work quickly reminds the viewer of Amsterdam & the Netherlands in the golden age.

Artist Note: My works in the Tulp Mania Series are made in several layers of acrylic paint, inspired by Rembrandt's glazing technique. Also visible is the frottis technique of the dry brush in combination with oil pastels from Sennelier purchased in Paris. The free drawing style of the tulips, which I draw with charcoal, is also very characteristic. Each layer of the work is exposed through these mixed techniques.

Paintings by Rick Triest are signed and provided with a handmade wax seal. Rick's works are also finished with a layer of varnish.

Visit the new studio

Located in Beinsdorp (Bollenstreek), Rick Triest has his Atelier & Gallery at home, an attractive space that breathes creativity. The painting studio reminds you of an old apothecary, full of various glass bottles, paint pots, tubes and other other artist supplies that Rick needs to create his work. The smell of wet oil paint, varnishes and fixatives is reminiscent of a painter's studio from the past. When you walk through his studio you see rough work and Rick's process, which provides a special and memorable experience. In his new adjacent Gallery you will find his latest work on display.

Frame making

In addition to Rick's Atelier & Gallery, he has a separately furnished space where he makes his own frames and frames his work. The frames are carefully made by hand with professional equipment. All available frames can be viewed in the studio. The delivery time of a frame is approximately 14 days.
